it all began with ditties...
As newlyweds, I serenaded Allison with silly improvised guitar ditties.
When our older son Tristan was born, I tried playing for him too,
but he would cover his ears and cry for me to stop making noise.
So I gave up playing for many years, but never gave up on Tristan.
Allison and I learned three important lessons about Tristan as he grew:
1) He wants to understand how everything works
2) He is easily frustrated by the slightest challenge
3) He loves listening to classical music
Hoping to give him an opportunity to explore music on his own terms,
Tristan and I played with stickers, color patterns, and familiar ditties
to see how the same songs can be played on different musical toys.
It's funny and wonderful how different two siblings can be.
As soon as our younger son, Quinn, could sit and crawl,
he sought out the bright dots on the musical toys and
sifted through the rainbow patterned musical sheets
always wanting to play the songs himself !
As part of a balanced play life, Allison and I are happy
to see our boys playing with music from time to time.
We also found that connecting these ditties and dots
connected us in family play and bonding time.
So now we'd like to share musical play with other families...
and hopefully save up for Tristan & Quinn's college funds !
